Scope and Content
This collection contains college financial audits and Board of Regents policy manuals. The policy manuals include the by-laws of the BOR. The audits were conducted by the state Department of Audits on West Georgia College, as the institution was originally known.
One record of note is the state plan for the desegregation of the universities of Georgia. This plan was written for the Director of the Office for Civil Rights in Washington, D.C. by the BOR to provide guidelines and goals for the continuing desegregation of the University System of Georgia in compliance with the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Organizational Note
In 1931, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia was created as part of a reorganization of Georgia’s higher education system.
The institution now known as the University of West Georgia – originally called West Georgia College - was a charter member of this new system. The campus originally was the 4th District A and M School, part of a Congressional district system that was abolished by the BOR.
