Administrative History

A Bachelor of Arts in Psychology was established at West Georgia College in September 1963. In 1967, Department of Psychology faculty member, Jim Thomas, began investigating a type of psychology education that resonated with students’ lives. At the suggestion of Abraham Maslow, Dr. Myron “Mike” Arons was chosen to head the Department in November 1968. Arons is credited with being the champion of the “humanistic” approach to psychology that is still being practiced today at the University of West Georgia.
