Biographical/Historical note
West Georgia College's basketball program was comprised of men’s and women’s teams called the Braves and the Lady Braves. The college competed as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) until it attained membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division II South Atlantic Conference in the 1974-1975 season. It later attained membership in the Gulf South Conference.
The Lady Braves competed in the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women’s (AIAW) Division II. The team moved to the NAIA during AIAW’s decline in the early eighties and eventually into the NCAA’s Division II Gulf South Conference.
In 1974, the Braves won the 1974 NAIA championship, becoming the first team in Georgia to win a national championship in basketball.
