Alice “Pearl” Nix was born 12 December 1912 in Choestoe, Georgia, the daughter of Columbus H. and Lillie (Henson) Nix. She received an A.B. degree in English from Piedmont College in 1940, a M.Ed. degree in educational supervision from the University of Georgia in 1946, and a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Georgia in 1959. She taught in the White County and Hall County, Georgia, schools; was a consultant in the teacher education workshops at North Georgia College, 1951-1954; Director of Guidance and Teacher Education at Truett-McConnell Junior College, 1947-1957; Counselor and Instructor in Psychology at the University of Georgia, 1958-1959, and Professor of Psychology and Director of Psychoeducational Services at West Georgia College from 1959 until her retirement in 1978.

Nix was listed in a number of Who’s Who publications during the 1970s for her work in education, science and psychology.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Grace Sunday School Class. She was the first ordained woman deacon of the church and was a director of WMU. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Georgia Teachers Association, Carroll County Retired Teachers Association, AARP, DAR, Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Civic Woman’s Club. She was the president of the Mental Health Association in Carroll County for many years. Dr. Nix received the Meritorious Service Award from Truett-McConnell College in 1992 and the Outstanding Professor Emeritus Award from the West Georgia College Alumni Association in 1992. She died 5 April 2002.
