Scope and Contents note

This collection contains four pen and ink drawings of buildings situated on the University of West Georgia campus. The buildings depicted in the drawings include: the old Alumni House, the old Ingram Library, Kennedy Chapel, and a doorway between two columns which is believed to be a drawing of one of the buildings on Front Campus Drive.

Biographical Note

J. J. Beckvermit was born in 1940. He graduated from West Georgia College in 1983 with his Bachelors of Fine Arts and a teaching certificate. In that same year, Beckvermit began teaching at Central High School. He returned to West Georgia College to obtain his Master of Fine Arts while he continued to teach, graduating in 1990. As part of his MFA project at West Georgia, Beckvermit produced a playing card deck depicting African masks which had a print run of 5,000 copies. After obtaining his MFA, he continued to teach at Central High until 2003. Beckvermit was also a member of the United States Navy, retiring in 1997 after twenty years of service. Currently, he produces art to sell commercially, makes models of local churches, and teaches art classes in the community.
