Biographical / Historical

The Battle of Brown’s Mill occurred on July 30, 1864, in Coweta County, Georgia, between Edward M. McCook’s Union cavalry and Joseph Wheeler’s Confederate forces. McCook’s forces were routed and forced to retreat northward. In the 1990s and 2000s, a number of stakeholders in the Coweta County area, including the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, worked to turn the former battlefield into a historic site. The Brown's Mill Battlefield Historic Site opened to the public on July 27, 2013.
