In 2019, Patricia Gorman, then property owner of the Tallapoosa School, located at 657 Tyus-Carrollton Road in Carrollton, initiated a history project for the site.

The Tallapoosa School was built in 1880 on property just over 3 acres and served as an instructional site for children. It closed sometime in the 1950s; the exact year is unknown.

The site was used by West Georgia College for its College in the Country program, likely in the 1940s and 1950s. It was also used for family reunions. Some if not most of the buildings on the property are no longer extant. The lunchroom building no longer exists.

The school building was renovated by Gorman in 2000 to become a yoga studio with small living quarters. This renovation altered the school interior and stabilized the exterior. Gorman operated the site as the Carrollton Wellness Collective and also rented it out to guests.

The history project, also involving then History professor at the University of West Georgia, William F. Stoutamire, and students in the Public History program, included conducting oral history interviews. With Gorman assisting the interviewees, Stoutamire and students conducted online video interviews with Betty Branson (previous name Betty McGuire) and with Cora Mae Pierce, both of whom attended the school during the 1940s; Judy Rowell (previous name Judy Copeland) whose mother, Lerlie Copeland, taught at the school; and Helen Tarpley (previous name Helen Horton) who attended the school in the 1930s and 1940s.

Kathy Rupp, whose Walker family relatives attended the school and Margie Dietz (previous name Margie Nell Lee), provided written recollections to Gorman.
