Biographical/Historical note

The Committee on Graduate Studies (COGS) was formed by the University of West Georgia to oversee the graduate programs offered by the institution. The committee was comprised of faculty and instructors who represent various fields on campus with their main goal being to offer graduate degrees and courses which will further the knowledge a student has already acquired in their undergraduate career. In addition, this committee helped to determine the requirements for admission into the graduate schools.

The group was called the Council on Graduate Studies from 1967-1973. By May 1974, the group was called the Committee on Graduate Studies, a name which continued through April 2011.
