Congressman Barr served on three of the six subcommittees that made up the full Financial Services Committee. These subcommittees were: Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises; Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, and Housing and Community Development.
Topics of interest in this collection include the bankruptcies of Enron and WorldCom, review of corporate accounting and auditing practices following the Enron collapse, FDIC reform, opposition to internet gambling, housing [including home ownership, affordability, subprime lending], and insurance [including risk-management, regulation, and competition]. Also of considerable importance in this collection are the Financial Service Competition Act and the Financial Services Modernization, both of which were the most significant reforms to the banking industry in the U.S since the New Deal.
