The first page of the scrapbook features a drawn tree with diamond-shaped leaves and the note from Swann, "My foot in the Far East. December 9, 1955 to March 25, 1957." The scrapbook includes handwritten annotations by Swann around photographs, clippings, postcards, letters, matchbooks, maps, menus, fliers, momentos, and other materials.

Included is a newsletter, Pat's Patter, Vol 76, No 31 (11 April 1957) which may indicate that Swann was, at some point, on board the USS General M. M. Patrick (AP-150).

From mail address to him, Swann appears to have held the ranks of Private First Class (PFC) and Specialist 3rd Class (SP3) in the U.S. Army Eighth. The scrapbook also includes a pass for Swann in December 1956, issued by the United Nations Command, to visit the southern portion of the demilitarized zone.
