Republican Pat Swindall (1950 - ) represented Georgia's 4 ^th district in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms between January 1985 and January 1989. He served in the 99 ^th and 100 ^th congresses. During his tenure, he served on the Judiciary Committee and the Banking Committee.

Pat Swindall was born in 1950 in Gadsden Alabama, but grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, working in his father's used furniture store during summer recesses, and graduated from Briarcliff High School in Dekalb County. Swindall received his B.A. from the University of Georgia in 1972 and his J.D. from UGA's School of Law in 1975. He practiced law in Atlanta from 1975 to 1984, when he challenged five-term Democratic Congressman Elliot Levitas and won his seat in the House of Representatives. He and his wife, Kim, married in 1982 and have seven children.

In January of 1988, Swindall's published his book, A House Divided. In the book, the Congressman argued against issues and stances which he felt were central to the country's well-being, like abortion, public education, and over-dependence on welfare. He is remembered in large part for the scandal which marked his last year in office, when a federal grand jury charged him with perjury after he lied to a Federal Grand Jury about a home-loan he received from Charles LeChasney. Swindall denied knowing that these funds might have consisted of laundered drug money and gambling profits, but taped interviews proved otherwise. The prosecutor assigned to his case was fellow Republican and later Congressman Bob Barr. Swindall lost his bid for re-election in 1988 to Ben Jones, formerly an actor on the television series "The Dukes of Hazzard."

Swindall was convicted of nine counts of perjury in 1992, but a later appeal overturned three of these counts. He served one year in prison for the remaining six counts, and was released in 1995, after which he became a Christian talk-radio host. A flea-market owned by Swindall was raided in 1997 by Atlanta police for drug trafficking. He was indicted along with two of his associates by a Fulton County grand jury in 2009 for making illegal contributions to Atlanta City Councilwoman Joyce Shepard's campaign, and for making false statements to cover up this act, and was ultimately placed on probation. Swindall also attempted to evict the tenants of another flea-market in 2009 in a building the former Congressman leased, but had recently lost. He was finally prevented from demolishing their stalls by Fulton County's Code Enforcement officers.

As of 2013, Pat Swindall has been embroiled in a rent-payment dispute with Fulton County beginning in 2008. Swindall and his lawyers argued that they were owed nearly half a million dollars in unpaid rent, fees, and interest, while county authorities argued for only slightly over $30,000. A jury awarded him $327,000 in August of 2012, but Fulton County officials planned to appeal and the case is on-going.
